Brynn’s development seemed relatively normal to her parents until, at 9 months old, she still showed no signs of crawling. At the age of two, a blood test determined that Brynn had Rett syndrome, a neurological disorder most common in girls. Though most children with Rett initially develop at a normal pace, they eventually lose use of their hands, experience delayed brain and head growth, have difficulty walking, suffer from seizures, and are intellectually disabled. Brynn, 5, is not able to walk or talk, but she loves music, horseback riding, and being read to.
